Thanks to everyone who came out to the Burkholder Brothers Triple Threat Relay and Levante 5k yesterday.  It was a lot of fun.  I really enjoyed the relay.

We’ve got some good stuff coming up in the next 2 weeks.  This Friday is Hoka One One John Hay PA Distance Festival at Henderson starting at 5:45PM.  It’s a great meet with something for everyone from 400 meters to 5000 meters.  The only 5k time that I trust is the track.  Everything else could be short or long.

A lot of people are intimidated by racing on the track.  You should embrace the opportunity to race on the track.  The opportunities are few and far between.  Racing on the track does a number of things:

1-Hones your racing instincts.  When you get in a race with people of similar ability in a tight situation, it forces you to learn how to race.  When I had one of my best seasons of running, I prepped for that by racing 4 or 5 times at shorter distances indoors.  I got my doors blown in, but it really helped in the spring and fall. In road races, you’ll spend a lot of time, just running.  On the track, you have to race.

2-It’s good for your running economy to run shorter races.

3-You learn to deal with a different kind of pain.  When you run an 800 or a mile hard, your body will try to fight you on it.  Learning how to fight through that pain is good for you.

I could go on, but don’t be afraid. Come out and test yourself on Friday night.  You’ll be thankful that you did.

Our other big upcoming race is the Dub C 4 Miler on Friday, June 9 in town.  Everyone reading this blog should enter the race immediately.  It’s a fun event over a tough course.

Here is this week’s workout schedule:

Tuesday-2k of tempo, 400 JR and then 600, 200 x 2 with a 200jr after the 600 and a 600jr after the 200.  600s at mile pace and 200s at 800 pace.

Friday-No workout-PADF.

Saturday-7-12 miles.  Lets’ go South Campus to Oakbourne Park-Do some loops there and then head back when it’s time.
